SLS is excited to announce our first cohort of SLS SDG Faculty Fellows – eight faculty from four colleges and seven schools, who will work with SLS during 2019 to advance their teaching and research related to the UN Sustainable Development Goals and help us increase faculty engagement in our regional sustainability network, RCE Greater Atlanta, officially acknowledged by the United Nations University:

Colleagues from the Ray C. Anderson Center for Sustainable Business in the Scheller College of Business are serving as program advisers, together with SLS.

Fellows are working on a broad range of projects, such as:

  • Advancing SDG 5: Gender Equality, through a global partnership and course development focused on women’s empowerment and technology
  • Conducting research exploring the relationship between income and well-being, advancing SDG 1: No Poverty, and the tradeoffs between productivity and workplace safety – SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth - and the effect of incentives for workplace safety on the occurrence of workplace safety incidents – SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production
  • Integrating the SDGs into community partnerships through capstone and a project-based course advancing SDG 13: Climate Action at Georgia Tech
  • Establishing an educational partnership with RCEs in Germany, to advance SDG education at Georgia Tech
  • Developing teaching case studies demonstrating how technological innovation – SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure – advances progress towards building sustainable communities – SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities

We are eager to engage more faculty, students, and staff in SDG education, and more broadly, in our efforts to advance Education for Sustainable Development by continuing to facilitate university-community partnerships that advance sustainable community-building and also integrate community and other real-world knowledge into our own teaching, research, and action – transforming higher education in the process.
