In 2017, GT Serve-Learn-Sustain co-launched RCE Greater Atlanta – a multi-stakeholder, regional, United Nations-affiliated sustainability education network focused on advancing the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through education and training. The network offers multiple opportunities for students, faculty, and community, government, and business partners to learn and grow together – both professionally and personally – and work towards making the Greater Atlanta region a more equitable and sustainable place.

SIGN UP FOR THE ONLINE (NON-CREDIT) COURSE: “LOCALIZING THE UN SDGs THROUGH EDUCATION, TRAINING AND REGIONAL COLLABORATION”

DETAILS: This course is a collaboration with other RCEs across the U.S. and Canada and is being hosted by AASHE – the Association for Advancing Sustainability in Higher Education. It will meet virtually five times on Tuesdays from 2:00-4:00 p.m. ET between February and May on these dates: February 21, March 21, April 4, April 25, and May 9. DESCRIPTION: Universities and colleges around the world are making commitments to advance the UN SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) through their teaching, research, operations, and partnerships. One proven model for making good on this commitment is to establish a United Nations-affiliated RCE network. RCEs – Regional Centres of Expertise on Education for Sustainable Development – are regional multi-stakeholder networks, grounded in higher education, that advance the SDGs through education and training. RCEs are proliferating, with over 180 networks around the world, including 27 in the Americas. 

In this cohort-based course, leaders from RCE networks from the U.S. and Canada will share experiences, case studies, and lessons learned on how universities and colleges can help lead multi-stakeholder collaborations that localize and advance the SDGs in their regions.

The series is preceded by a free introductory webinar on January 18 from 2:00-3:00 p.m. ET, which will introduce the Global RCE network and the course. All participants are strongly encouraged to participate or watch the recording of the webinar prior to the first meeting and do homework (approx. 1 hr) before the first official session on February 21.
