We are surrounded by media, a broad term that encompasses visual, textual, and sonorous modes of communication. In this course, we will focus on media from the Francophone world (including Algeria, Belgium, Burundi, France, and Rwanda) by listening to music, reading texts, thinking critically, and discussing how we share stories and histories. We will have mindful and meaningful exchanges concerning identity, inequity, gender, (im)migration, isolation, and building community that seek to respond to today's social concerns. In the process, we will be creating some of our own media while modeling the ethics of sustainable community living through varied assessments and in-class activities.
