Intro to Africa

"Intro to Africa" is a commitment to inclusive teaching using a diversity of materials and approaches to introduce students to various aspects of various nations in Africa. As its name suggest, "Intro to Africa" is broad in its goal. It is also interdisciplinary in its methodologies and lenses and welcomes a plurality of knowledge systems.

French Culture II

The course will primarily include interactions with cultural partners: French Cultural services of the General Consulates of France and Switzerland in Atlanta via on-campus events within the framework of the Villa Albertine Project. Reinventing artists’ residencies, Villa Albertine is creating a network for arts and ideas spanning France and the United States. It offers tailor-made residencies for global creators, thinkers and cultural professionals.

Sustainable Communities

This course focuses on social, artistic, cultural, and scientific dimensions of sustainability and the concepts of identity, diversity, social equity and inclusion/exclusion in the French context. This course will introduce students to sustainable communities in France through lectures, projects, videos, downloads from the Internet, and class discussions.

Japanese Discourse and Grammar

In JPN 4750/8803 "Japanese & Discourse" is the advanced Japanese course, the students learn Japanese discourse and grammar especially difference between the spoken and written language and male and female speech by watching TV drama, NHK documentaries, newspaper articles. The students will interact with Japanese University students via COIL (collaborative online interactive learning). This course explores issues related to SDGs, especially # 5 Gender equality &10 Reduce Inequalities in Japan.

Field Work Abroad (Local Sustainability Practices)

NOTE: This course is taught at Georgia Tech Lorraine (GTL) in Metz, France.

Modern Iran: Social & Environmental Sustainability

This course is an exploration of social and environmental sustainability in Modern Iran with a focus on Iranian women changemakers. The course is fully remote with only one synchronous session each week. Taught in Persian. Students will have the opportunity to collaborate with different initiatives and work on projects focused on social and cultural sustainability on campus. Assignments will allow students to work in their medium of choice such as short videos, info graphs, paper, websites, or podcasts to give voice to sustainability efforts.

Modern Iran: Tehran on Screen

The course Modern Iran: Tehran on Screen is an exploration of modern Iran through cinematic representations of its capital city, Tehran and has the following four goals. First, it trains students to become participants in debates about the Iranian Cinema, mediated representations of Tehran, as well as Iranian arts, urban culture and society. In doing so, it introduces students to dominant paradigms of cinematic arts, urban social development and welfare, and situates such paradigms in the contemporary history of Iran.

Reel Cities: Public Spaces and Social Issues

The Reel Cities: Public Spaces & Social Issues is a course where students learn about the urban sociology of the Middle East through movies. This class has the following four goals. First, it trains students to become participants in debates about mediated representations of the Middle East, global violence, urbanism, poverty, and inequality. In doing so, it introduces students to dominant paradigms of urban development, sustainability, and social welfare and situates such paradigms in the 20th and the 21st century history of the Middle East.

French Culture II

Proficiency-based introduction to selected socio-cultural aspects of France with a focus on sustainability-related issues and initiatives in France and the francophone world (green transportation, renewable sources of energy, ecovillages, zero plastic initiatives, social entrepreneurship etc.); incorporates grammar review. Conducted in French.
